Your tax preparer only shows up in April?
By the time a return gets filed, the decisions that actually shaped the bill were made months earlier. Planning has to happen year-round, not after the fact.
Not sure if your entity structure is still the right one?
The setup that made sense at $500K in revenue often doesn't at $5M. An entity review catches that before it costs you.
Tax bills that surprise you?
Quarterly estimated planning means you know roughly what's coming — no scrambling for cash in April.
Your CFO work and your tax prep don't talk to each other?
When the same person sees both your forecast and your return, tax strategy and business strategy move together instead of getting reconciled after the fact.
Proactive planning throughout the year — not a scramble each spring — so your tax position reflects decisions made in real time, not ones already locked in.
An assessment of whether your current entity — S-corp, LLC, partnership — is still the right one as revenue and ownership change, and what switching would actually save or cost.
Your business return prepared and filed by the same CPA who already knows your numbers — no re-explaining your business to someone new every tax season.
Quarterly projections so estimated payments are based on where the year is actually heading, not last year's number carried forward.
For clients on both engagements, your tax strategy and your CFO forecast stay in sync — no reconciling two different pictures of the business after the fact.
If a notice or audit does come up, you're working with the CPA who already knows your full financial picture — not starting from zero with someone new.
Neil is a Certified Public Accountant, MBA, and Certified Valuation Analyst who has spent his career helping privately held businesses make better financial decisions. Tax planning isn't handled in isolation — it's informed by the same forecasting and strategy work behind his Fractional CFO engagements, so your tax position stays in sync with where the business is actually headed, not just where it's been.
Is tax planning included with the Fractional CFO retainer, or is it separate?
It's billed separately from the CFO retainer, though clients on both often bundle them — Fractional CFO clients get 10% off Tax Planning & Preparation, and the two engagements stay in sync since it's the same person handling both.
Do you handle personal returns, or just the business?
The core engagement covers business returns. For active Fractional CFO or Tax Planning clients, personal returns tied to the business — owner K-1s, pass-through income — can be added; reach out and we'll scope it together.
What entity types do you work with?
S-corporations, LLCs, and partnerships most often — the structures typical of the $5M–$15M revenue businesses this practice focuses on. C-corp and sole proprietor situations are handled case by case.
Do you offer IRS representation if we get a notice or an audit?
Yes. As a CPA, Neil can represent you directly with the IRS — notice response and audit support are included as part of the engagement, not billed as a separate emergency service.
No pitch. No pressure. Just a quick, honest conversation about your tax situation and whether this is the right fit.
